The 100 Mile Curling Rink was filled with laughter and fun as seven teams picked up their brooms for the Charity Challenge Fun Bonspiel on Saturday. The games started at 9:00am until 4:00pm, with all proceeds going to the 139 Children’s Fundraising Society.
The 139 Children's Fundraising Society is made up with volunteers and corporate sponsors, throughout the Cariboo-Chilcotin. The society has raised thousands of dollars to help kids, and their families get the medical help they need. Their motto is "kids deserve the best chance in life", and that is what the society is all about. The society keeps the money in the community for families that are in need. The society helps children travel to appointments, helps with the cost of food, lodging, and medical equipment in the Cariboo-Chilcotin area including Williams Lake, Clinton, 100 Mile House, Quesnel, Horsefly, Likely, Tatla Lake, Anahim Lake and Bella Coola.
The teams included players young and older, beginners and experienced, with two teams from Safeway, and teams from Donex, Barb McGuire’s Lac La Hache curlers, the 100 Mile Curling Club, Ed Ney’s team and Lakeland Veterinary Clinic.

The snacks were fantastic, with donations of coffee from Tim Hortons, subs from Subway, lasagna from Casa Romas, KFC chicken, and pizza. Safeway Manager Floyd Krishan was responsible for arranging the donations.
Says 100 Mile Curling Club member (and the ice maker) Bill Pratt, “It was a lot of fun, for a great cause, and we really want to thank everyone who participated and the merchants who donated the food and coffee!”
