Hi all,
What an exciting week this past week with the entire country if not the world focusing on British Columbia and everything we have to offer. This past week I hosted the top 8 Asian customers for BC’s forest products at the Monday Women’s hockey game and the event paid off. One of the companies is looking seriously at a major investment in a BC based forest company and it looks like the deal is very close to completion.
In addition we hosted “Forestry Day” on Tuesday and got the attention of the International media. There was at least 20 TV Stations as well as dozens of other media from all over the world as we led demonstrations of forest fire fighting techniques. Earlier in the day 6 First Nations from the Nanwakolis gifted a 37’ war canoe to the Province in a gesture meant to highlight the new approach to logging in the Great Bear Rain Forest. It will be interesting to see what we get from our efforts but I think we told a great story and I believe NBC has already run a 3 minute segment on BC’s industry.
On Friday I hosted a delegation from the Gyeong Gi Province of Korea at some Short Track Speed Skating (very popular with the Koreans) including Moon-Sun Lee (Green Energy Policy Division Manager) and You Yeon Chae (Vice Governor for Political Affairs) and had some very worthwhile discussions on BC’s Wood Pellet Industry. Korea is looking to get out of coal fired electrical generation and into biomass (pellets). You can see some video from the day’s events at http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/pab/media/bell/forestry-day.htm
This week’s Top 10 has to be a focus of our 10 Canadian Athletes who have won Gold at these games (at the time of writing because there are still more potential medals).
Have a great week!
