102511_truck_thiefOn October 25 at approximately 9:30am , members of the Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services Unit noted a suspicious male enter a black 1995 Dodge pickup near the 108 Mile rest area. Members checked the status of the vehicle and found it was flagged as stolen.

Members pulled a marked police vehicle behind the Dodge that was parked against a dirt berm and activated the emergency lights. The vehicle started up and sprayed the Police car with rocks as it climbed the small berm.

The vehicle left the rest area at a high rate of speed north bound on Highway 97. Members activated the emergency equipment and continued in the direction of the Dodge pickup.

The spike belt was deployed just north of Lac La Hache and the Dodge pickup hit spike strips that were set up. The driver eventually stopped the vehicle and fled from police on foot.

The Police Service Dog apprehended the suspect near by. He was arrested and transported to 100 Mile House RCMP detachment.

The suspect has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and breach of probation X2. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending the approval of charges by Crown. The investigation is ongoing.
