Province kicks in for 100 Mile soccer

The World Cup may be over, but soccer continues to thrive for the 100 Mile House and District Soccer Association thanks to $32,400 in gaming grants from the Province of B.C.
“Soccer, or football as it’s known in other parts, continues to be the world’s game because it’s fun, simple to learn and great exercise,” says Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett. “Funding for organizations like the Soccer Association is a priority for our government, because sports teach our youth about teamwork and healthy lifestyles.”
Effective April 1, 2010, the Province combined two gaming grant programs (bingo affiliation and direct access) into the Community Gaming Grant program. This amalgamation ensures all community groups have fair and equitable access to gaming funds. It also streamlines and simplifies the grant application, review and approval process for applicants and the Province.
In total, the Province has budgeted $120 million for gaming grants in 2010-2011, $7.4 million more than last year. The grants will fund approximately 6,000 organizations that support people in need, public safety, youth arts and sports, education and parent and district advisory councils.
To date, approximately $54 million has been allocated to gaming grants for 2010-2011. The Province considers applications for community gaming grants four times per year, with each intake devoted to a specific sector.
