The Cariboo Regional District’s Miocene Volunteer Fire Department’s (VFD) Society recently received two generous donations from members of its community.

At an appreciation dinner held by the department, Merv Furlong and Sture Kallman both presented cheques to the Society, in the amount of $5000 each.  These funds were donated to help facilitate the purchase of a thermal imaging camera that will greatly assist the fire department in a number of ways.

“These cameras can, and will, save lives,” says Miocene Fire Chief, Stan Pogue. “They not only indicate hot spots in a building before flames are visible but also indicate where a fire may reignite due to heat sources that may remain hidden in walls, ceilings, sub-floors or attic after a visible fire has been put out. These cameras read temperature variations so they are also invaluable at accident scenes to assist in finding people who may be injured and out of sight.”

The Miocene VFD is staffed by volunteer members. If you have an interest in helping your local CRD fire department, as a fire fighter, a first responder, or administratively, contact your local VFD, or call the CRD’s Protective Services department at 250-392-3351 or 1-800-665-1636.
