100 MILE HOUSE, BC – A $3-million contract to build a four-way intersection on Highway 97 will improve motorist and pedestrian safety.
“Road safety is our number one priority. These upgrades will provide a safe and efficient route for school children, pedestrians and school buses,” says MLA Donna Barnett.
The project will align Horse Lake Road with 7th Avenue, extend the four-laning on Highway 97 and improve lighting, mobility and access. The project is cost-shared with the District of 100 Mile House.
The contract was awarded to Jacob Bros Construction Ltd of Surrey B.C. and will be complete in early September 2010. Motorists can expect single-lane alternating traffic and delays of up to 20 minutes.
Previous improvements to the area included the construction of a pond to provide settlement and filtration for highway and storm drain runoff. Also included were upgrades to the pedestrian underpass of Highway 97.
Traffic advisories and construction updates will be posted at Drive BC. http://www.drivebc.ca
