I will be hosting the 7th Annual BC Natural Resource Forum and Economic Summit at the Civic Centre in Prince George on Wednesday, January 13th and Thursday, January 14th, 2010. The theme for the Forum this year will be “Natural Resources in the New Low Carbon Economy” and will present many interesting speakers and networking opportunities. 1. Join me for breakfast and an early start on Day 1 (Wednesday, January 13, 2010) of the Forum and my presentation on B.C.’s 21st Century Forest Industry – your opportunity to be first in the know!
2. Ken Shields has agreed to be the Keynote opening speaker on the topic of “Investing in BC’s Forest Industry”. Ken Shields is CEO of Conifex and comes with considerable on the ground knowledge of the forest industry in the north.
3. Spectra Energy Vice President, Strategic Development and External Affairs – Gary C. Weilinger will be presenting on the “Role of Natural Gas in the Carbon Economy”.
4. Come and enjoy lunch on Day 1 and listen to keynote speaker, James Goldstein, speak on Carbon Offsets. James is the Executive Officer of the California Resources Board which is responsible for California’s clean air programs and AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006.
5. Following lunch on Day 1, there will be panel focusing on Carbon Offsets, moderated by John Rustad, MLA with panellists, Scott MacDonald, CEO of Pacific Carbon Trust, Jessica Verhagen, Climate Action Secretariat and Jeff Calvert, Managing Director Borealis (formerly of PG and now in Toronto).
6. On Day 2 (Thursday) of the Forum, Keynote Speaker, Chairman of Imperial Metals, Pierre Lebel will open on the topic of “Copper Demand in the Low Carbon Economy.”
7. The Honourable Shirley Bond MLA will moderate a panel on Mining with panellists Glen Wonders of Terrane Metals, Harold Bent of Northgate Minerals (Kemess Mine) and one more mining representative to be determined.
8. We have invited the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Federal Minister of Natural Resources to speak at the Luncheon on Thursday – stay tuned!
9. To round out the afternoon of Day 2 of the Forum, speaker Don Roberts, Managing Director CIBC World Markets Inc. will address “Bioenergy in the World Markets.” He is well known and as a speaker is ranked as one of the top equity analysts covering the global paper and forest products industry.
10. Finishing off the two day Forum will be an exciting panel on Bioenergy co-hosted in conjunction with the Northern Bioenergy Partnership. Panelists will include Don Steele, CEO Pacific Bioenergy, Fred Spinola, General Manager Deltech Manufacturing, Greg Stewart, President Sinclair Group, Jonathon Rohne, CEO Nexterra, Gail Fondahl, VP Research UNBC, Martin Pudlas, General Manager of Canfor Pulp's Prince George Pulp and Intercontinental Mills, Nick Finch, Project Leader Alterna Biocarbon with moderator, Charles Jago.
