Premier Gordon Campbell and Prime Minister Stephen Harper congratulate the Team Canada’s women’s hockey team on their Olympic gold-medal victory.Premier Gordon Campbell released the following statement yesterday  in honour of the Canadian Men’s Hockey Team’s win in the gold-medal game, which set a new all-time record for gold medals won by any country in a single Olympic Winter Games:

“Today we saw a transcendent example of how sport can unite an entire nation. From Cole Harbour to Tofino, Canadians came together to celebrate the Spirit of 2010 and watch the final hockey game of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and it didn’t disappoint.

“On behalf of all British Columbians I congratulate all the players on the team, in particular B.C.’s own Duncan Keith of Penticton, captain Scott Niedermeyer of Cranbrook, Tsawwassen’s Brent Seabrook, Shea Weber from Sicamous, and everyone’s favourite adopted British Columbian, Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks. Their passion for the game we love and for our country is second to none.

“I also congratulate the entire Canadian Olympic Team, who inspired and entertained us. Whether or not they won an individual medal here, they truly owned the podium with their grace, dignity, courage and skill.”
