Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna BarnettCongratulations to the editors on launching this new news source that will help our community stay informed about important issues and events, as well as celebrating our achievements. As technology has changed so has the way citizens they communicate in today’s world with increasingly people finding the information they need online. I also thank the owners of the sites for giving me the opportunity to provide facts on what your government is doing. Facts on program budgets, and new legislation being introduced in the House.

I encourage everyone to visit the many government websites which will answer a lot of the questions about provincial policy or services. If you need further information please contact my offices through our toll free number, 1-866-305-3804, Williams Lake office at 250-305-3800 or our 100 Mile House office at 250-395-3916, as well, you can email me via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. With the global economic downturn, hard choices and decisions have had to be made. Do any of us like cutbacks? Do any of us like increased taxes, or fees? The answer to both of these questions is NO!

HST is there to encourage and assist our resource industries to be more competitive. It is an end tax not a hidden tax. Industry and business will benefit with tax input credits which I believe will be passed on to consumers. There no HST on home energy, oil and gas/electricity. The market place is competitive and there are many offsets to assist low income families, which I will, through my media columns from time to time, pass on.

The increase in MSP premiums has also taken income thresholds into consideration.

Example: Senior couple with an income of $35,000 will see their annual premium cost fall by more than $200. Family of four earning $30,000 will see their annual costs reduced by more than $250. In total approximately 180,000 British Columbians will see their premium costs reduced or eliminated.

I am proud to be a member of our Northern Liberal MLA’s who are working together to ensure that we have a strong foundation to build a bright future for this province on behalf of our constituents.
