Racism not acceptable in Forest Grove

Dear Editor;
I wonder how residents of the South Cariboo would react to an egg being splattered against their living room window late at night and the words "Nigger Lovers" written in felt pen on the siding below this window. This is exactly what happened on the night of September 8 to Max and Janett King who live in Forest Grove and I find no words to describe how angry I feel about this terrible racist act.
Max and Janett moved to Forest Grove last year from Chilliwack. They moved to be closer to Janett's parents and help them with their business. Max and Janett had adopted two very young Haitian children who are now teenagers. The suspected reason for this terrible act is that the children are not white and someone has taken it upon themselves to send a message that these two beautiful children are not welcome in Forest Grove. As CRD director and area resident I find this discrimination to be totally appalling and knowing the residents of Forest Grove as I do I would be very surprised if the perpetrator(s) of this act actually lives in that community. The RCMP have started a formal investigation into this matter and take any racist act very seriously as they should. Hopefully the person or persons responsible for this will be caught and charged and I hope that Max and Janett and their children can get past this terrible incident. Forest Grove is made up of many good and caring people and I know they will be just as outraged as I am about what has happened in our community.
