Letter to the Editor regarding the NDP survey
Sent to Paul Dewar, MP
The mass mailing from the NDP regarding British Columbia's HST gives me some concern. The most obvious concern is that to check off boxes to either agree or disagree with each of the three statements are much too clearly designed to elicit the response you want.
Therefore I have chosen to respond with this e-mail rather than mailing in your response sheet.
I would have been more inclined to respond if you had suggested an alternative to the HST. If we, both nationally and provincially, are going to pay our own debts and not leave our children and grandchildren with these same debts then the money has to come from somewhere and it has to come now. I would very much like to know how your party plans to pay these debts down. In the end there is only one pocket that will ever get picked and that is all of us as individuals. Even corporate taxes are all part of the money cycle and eventually comes back to us.
That being said, and as much as I dislike the additional tax I will pay from my pension, I do not see any solution other to stick my grandkids with my debts. As I find that unacceptable, I will pay.
If you have a better idea than the HST please let us have it. If you haven't a better idea, save your money and don't bother with mail out surveys that, in the end, mean nothing.
