Where did the money come from to build the Soccer fields?

To the editor;
100 Mile House and area now has four tournament standard sized soccer fields. The development of this Soccer Park was driven by the 100 Mile House and District Soccer Association (OMHSA).The first two fields will be used starting in the spring of 2010 and the remaining two will be used in 2011 and beyond, after we give the grass a chance to fully mature.
In recent news, interest was generated as to how the OMHSA Soccer Park Development was funded.
Over the last three years OMHSA was successful in raising the funds needed to build the fields that will serve 550 kids every year. The District and the CRD, were very supportive in getting the fields built, however the largest amount of money being spent at the OMHSA Soccer Park was raised by volunteers of the organization through applications for grants and donations from outside our community. $700,000 came from outside the community. Approximately $100,000 was raised or donated by non-profit organizations in addition to corporate and private donations within our community. The balance of the required funds were generated by OMHSA volunteers through organizing two Dinner Auctions, three ATV Raffles and funding synergies with the Whitecaps FC in Vancouver.
In 2010 the Fundraising Drive will continue in order to build a Clubhouse with change rooms and bathrooms for our players.
