Health and Fitness

110509_lauraflushotSo much information is flying about regarding H1N1 that it does tend to make your head spin. Global News tonight showed several scams that offer "cures" "preventative" "products" that people are actually buying in hopes of avoiding the dread flu. ie. Someone packaged regular aspirin in a plastic case, and marketed it online as Tamiflu. Tamiflu, the true thing, does help, but people are seizing the opportunity to milk people for money for a worthless purchase.

We have some great stores in our communities who do provide reliable products, information, and are willing to spend time even face to face in discussing best options with you.

This is not an exhaustive list, I'm sure, and if people get to me with other resources, I'll add them to this column.

As well, there are more people than we know of who are affiliated with Home Based businesses that provide excellent products. You likely know who they are, and can speak with them. Get information. Go online and research. Be pro-active in your search for Preventative Health Products.

One company I know of has created a Pack for Prevention, so to speak, all products approved by Health Canada, that can give you the best defense possible.

My husband and I got our regular flu shots today at our doctor’s office. I got the H1N1 shot as well, as I have asthma. However my husband has to wait until the vaccine is more readily available. H1N1 kills by filling the lungs up, sometimes in hours. No antibiotic or treatment can hit anything so fast and this is why H1N1 can be deadly.

I was nervous about having the shot for H1N1. I worried that if I took the shot, I may get sick from it. But I discovered in my research that NO ONE has ever died from getting the shot. It is a 'dead' substance which cannot multiply and do its' deadly thing. But it does cause our immune system to develop antibodies that can protect us.

There is so much information floating around and so many folks who are this way and that about it. Be pro-active, research, and come to the conclusion that you feel confident and sure about.

In the meantime, while all this is going on, take common sense measures. We all can eat healthily, get plenty of sleep, WASH OUR HANDS, and refrain from lifestyle behaviour that puts us more at risk. When you get home from having been in public, wash your hands very well. Keep your hands from your eyes and face in general. Impress these things upon your children and when feeling unwell, stay home.

We’ve are doing and have done the best we can given all we know. In addition, we bought four boxes of Chicken Noodle Soup today. That's what we do when feeling cold or 'fluish'. I hope it sits in the cupboard unused, but we're ready! Armed and dangerous!! Do what you can do and what is reasonable to do, and that will stand you in good stead.

Good Health everyone.
