Williams Lake, BC – Wildfire crews will continue to focus on protecting life and property as hot, dry conditions persist throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre.

The Dog Creek fire, 85 kilometres southwest of William’s Lake, is 15 per cent contained and remains at 1,800 hectares in size. Heavy machinery has constructed a fuel free guard on a large portion of the fire’s perimeter. Fire specialists will be assessing the fire’s status this morning.

An Evacuation Order and Alert remains in effect for residents within the area.

With an increase in fire behaviour three fires, 23 kilometres north of Nazko, near Pelican Lake, have grown in size. The largest fire is now 2,500 hectares. As a result of the change in activity the Cariboo Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for residents within the vicinity of these fires.

Air tankers, helicopters, and heavy machinery will continue to support ground crews throughout the day.

For more information on evacuations please contact the Cariboo Regional District at 250-392-4283.

With high to extreme fire danger ratings and an increase in fire activity, all open burning, including campfires, is now prohibited within the Cariboo Fire Centre. As the risk of wildfires increases it is critical to prevent person caused fires, which detract resources away from naturally occurring fires caused by lightning.

Due to active wildfires in the area the Cariboo Fire Centre strongly advises the public to voluntarily restrict their activities in the backcountry. This is in order to protect public safety and to minimize human caused fires.
