A determined group from the South Cariboo gathered in 100 Mile House yesterday to protest the Olympics. They held a 'Poverty Olympics' to emphasize the high povery rate in BC, the lowest minimum wage an the highest child poverty rate for the 6th year in a row.
The event offered the opportunity to speak out against homelessness, poverty, underfunding in welfare, health care, family services, education and protection of the environment.
A barrel fire offered heat for protestors and visitors and events included the serving of warm, fresh-baked, locally grown potatoes.
