There were 48 dog-sled teams registered on the weekend at the Jack Gawthorn Cariboo Classic event at the Hills Health and Guest Ranch in 108 Mile House, a gathering that included teams from B.C., Alberta, Yukon, Germany, Austria and Australia.
“The spectator audience was the largest we’ve ever seen,” said Len Doucette, volunteer with the sled dog race and Operations Manager at the Hills. “It’s a great event---it was very well attended and we were over-sold on our Musher’s Banquet on Saturday.”
Dave Johnson from the Yukon took first place in the 8-Dog category, Richard Crittendan from Pemberton came in first in both the 6-Dog and 4-Dog categories, and first place in the 6-Dog category was taken by Rob Bryce from Prince George.
The 4-Dog Purebred winner was Nicole Swan from Prince George and the Skijoring first place went to Hans Appelman from Westerose, Alberta.
