103009_gold_countryA Gold Country workshop yielded many great ideas and identified excellent opportunities in tourism promotion and economic development throughout the region. Representatives from member communities gathered to provide ideas for consideration by the Board of Directors in the upcoming budget and project planning for 2010 and beyond.

Led by facilitator Deb McKinney whose background includes a wide cross section of tourism experience, the group discussed future opportunities for the region and how to overcome the challenges in meeting goals.

McKinney has successfully worked with the Vancouver Attractions Group, the Council of Tourism Associations and is Past President of the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Tourism Region. An outgoing Board Director for Tourism B.C., she served on the Tourism Standing Committee and the Visitors Services Committee.

Gold Country Chair Ida Makaro shares, “It is very rewarding to see our member communities and regional district directors working so cooperatively. These initiatives will lead to greater success in the Gold Country region and therefore for each of our communities and businesses.”

The all day session, themed “Surviving & Thriving Beyond 2010”, was held Thursday, October 29th.

Dates are presently being set for the Board of Directors to meet and sort through the information gained at the workshop.
