This Saturday marks the culmination of eight months of preparation and work by HunCity Productions, when Run Outta Road premieres at the South Cariboo Theatre October 29. Run Outta Road is a music video featuring an original song by local musicians Laura Kelsey and Peter Thorne.
The project started last February when HunCity Productions producer Charles Jones was filming a Hootenanny Cafe in Forest Grove, B.C. During the event, Laura and Peter performed 'Run Outta Road'.

A yellow and black plastic helicopter, the size of a cocker spaniel, lifts off skyward two hundred feet straight up in the air. Then suddenly it darts sideways fifty feet, then straight ahead, then backwards. Its high-pitched engine screams, all the while emitting a cloud of blue smoke. Its movements are quick and eratic, resembling that of a giant dragonfly, only more versatile; upright one moment, then upside down the next.

During the thirty years I worked as a journalist covering the news and happenings in the Chilcotin and Bella Coola Valley, there wasn’t a more colourful character in the region than former Anahim Lake store owner, Darcy Christensen. The front of his general store was emblazoned with a multicoloured mural of galloping horses, and above it were the words: “If we don’t have it; then you don’t need it.” Darcy was known far and wide as the “Flying Fur Buyer”, and if you were feeling lucky you could step inside the store and flip double or nothing with Darcy for anything in the store.

The 10th annual South Cariboo Garlic Festival may very well have been the best one yet. Lac La hache made the perfect backdrop for a garlicky good time including live entertainment, face painting for the kids and a garlic peeling & eating contest.
Competitors cooked up a garlic storm that saw Gina Myhill-Jones of 100 Mile House, and her Garlic Shrimp Wonton Soup, awarded the title of 2010 Master Garlic Chef. Marc Stucki's Beef Wellington came in second, followed by Kathleen Daniels' Creamy Garlic Broccoli Salad.
Organizers are already planning and anticipating next year's event.
