The 10th annual South Cariboo Garlic Festival may very well have been the best one yet. Lac La hache made the perfect backdrop for a garlicky good time including live entertainment, face painting for the kids and a garlic peeling & eating contest.
Competitors cooked up a garlic storm that saw Gina Myhill-Jones of 100 Mile House, and her Garlic Shrimp Wonton Soup, awarded the title of 2010 Master Garlic Chef. Marc Stucki's Beef Wellington came in second, followed by Kathleen Daniels' Creamy Garlic Broccoli Salad.
Organizers are already planning and anticipating next year's event.

'Poverty Olympics' event

A determined group from the South Cariboo gathered in 100 Mile House yesterday to protest the Olympics. They held a 'Poverty Olympics' to emphasize the high povery rate in BC, the lowest minimum wage an the highest child poverty rate for the 6th year in a row.
The event offered the opportunity to speak out against homelessness, poverty, underfunding in welfare, health care, family services, education and protection of the environment.
A barrel fire offered heat for protestors and visitors and events included the serving of warm, fresh-baked, locally grown potatoes.
