One of my favourite gifts to give at Christmas is books. It is a delight to shop at Storytime Family Book Store on Birch Avenue in 100 Mile House. The store is across from Donex Pharmacy and features new and gently-used books for all ages, music and gift items and Watkins products.
Judith and Byron Staples moved to 100 Mile House in August of 2006 from Chilliwack and opened the doors of Storytime on August 7, 2007. They have a good selection of new books and book-related products for the whole family and customers can purchase "gently used" books, many with trading credit so they can be returned for a discount on the next used-book purchase.
Judith is known to many residents from her work in 2006 on the CFEC Homelessness Project. Byron has been hauling wood chips in the area for the past five years. An avid hobby woodworker, he built an attractive store counter and bookshelves using Cariboo "beetle wood" with the distinctive blue vein.
The store also carries selected Watkins Products, which the Staples have been selling for the past eight years. Watkins has a new line of facial and body care called J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary. The new line now has 40 products carrying the NPA Seal.
A new company press release mentions that, “J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary has received Natural Products Association certification for its newest line extensions; Daily Cleansing Cream, Divine Day Cream, Nourishing Night Cream, Medicated Lip Balm, Peppermint Foot Scrub, Aloe and Green Tea Shampoo and Body Wash. With the addition of these products, the company now has the second most products certified out of fourteen companies that currently carry the seal.
This highly regarded seal represents natural products that are formulated with at least 95% natural ingredients made from renewable and sustainable resources. The average woman slathers over 125 chemicals onto her scalp, body, face and lips each day. Wouldn't be such a big deal if they were all cleared by health officials, but only 11% of the 10,500 chemical ingredients that go into making personal care products are actually tested for safety.
Meeting the NPA Standard
Products must follow strict guidelines set out by the Natural Products Association to carry the seal, including:
· At least 95 percent truly natural ingredients or ingredients that are derived from natural sources.
· No ingredients with any potential suspected human health risks.
· No processes that significantly or adversely alter the purity/effect of the natural ingredients.
· Ingredients that come from a purposeful, renewable/plentiful source found in nature (flora, fauna, mineral).
· Processes that are minimal and don't use synthetic/harsh chemicals or otherwise dilute purity.
· Non-natural ingredients only when viable natural alternative ingredients are unavailable and only when there are absolutely no suspected potential human health risks.”
