Request for Nominations for a Youth Director – Fraser Basin Council Board of Directors
The Fraser Basin Council is a charitable non-profit society that brings people together to advance sustainability in the Fraser River Basin and throughout British Columbia. The Council works in support of healthy ecosystems, vibrant economies and strong communities. The Council’s Board of Directors represents four orders of government, civil society and the private sector from all regions of the Fraser Basin. The Council is currently seeking nominations for a youth representative on its Board of Directors to ensure that intergenerational perspectives are incorporated into its decision-making processes.
Roles & Responsibility:
The Youth Director of the Board will represent the interests of youth and bring a youth perspective to the strategic discussion at the Board level. The Youth Director will act as the key liaison between the Fraser Basin Council Youth Committee and the Board. In addition, the Youth Director will provide strategic input to the work of the Council to ensure youth from across the Fraser Basin are effectively engaged. The Youth Director is a volunteer role for a period of up to three years starting in January 2010. Travel and accommodation costs associated with Board responsibilities will be paid by the Fraser Basin Council.
The Council will also provide mentorship opportunities through the support of one or more Directors from the Board.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
• Confident and able to communicate ideas and perspectives at a strategic level;
• Able to effectively contribute to dialogue and decisions about the sustainability of the Fraser River Basin;
• Knowledge and understanding of youth specific issues and approaches to youth engagement;
• Demonstrable ability to lead with at least two years work, volunteer or community-based experience in social, environmental and/or economic sectors;
• Proven ability to work collaboratively, actively participate and take leadership in decision making processes (e.g. committee work, previous Board experience);
• Actively involved within the community (e.g. local volunteer, member of community group or club etc).
Additional Requirements:
• A resident within the Fraser Basin Region (Greater Vancouver-Sea to Sky, Fraser Valley, Thompson, Cariboo-Chilcotin, or Upper Fraser) from January 2010 - January 2013;
• Aged between 15 and 29 from January 2010 - January 2013;
• Able to attend 3 Board meetings and at least 2 Youth Committee meetings per year. Board meetings are regularly scheduled during business hours on the first Thursday of February, June and October of each year. In some cases a workshop or field tour is organized on the preceding Wednesday;

Interviews with successful applicants will take place on December 11th and 12th 2009.
Orientation will occur in January, with the first Board meeting scheduled for January 27-28, 2010.
