H1N1 flu virus update
While the Province continues to count individual confirmed cases, the weekly report now includes only severe confirmed H1N1 cases (hospitalizations and deaths). The full count of individual cases will be available on FluWatch website.
BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has confirmed 863 severe H1N1 cases in British Columbia, including:
Fraser Health - 336, including 12 deaths
Interior Health - 185, including 7* deaths
Northern Health - 38, including 1 death
Vancouver Coastal Health - 230, including 8 deaths
Vancouver Island Health Authority - 74, including 6 deaths
To date, 34* laboratory-confirmed H1N1 cases in B.C. are reported to have died. Of those, 29 cases had underlying medical conditions while four had no underlying conditions. One case is still under investigation. Clinicians and public health partners across the province have increased vigilance and will continue to report unusual clusters or cases of severe respiratory illnesses.
