News from Mount Timothy Ski Hill

By Noel Thompson
Lots of new and exciting things are happening this fall to get us ready for winter. Improvements continue in the new Freestyle Zone, which will be up and in operation with a new platter lift to replace the old handle tow. The new lift will get you back up from the terrain park all the way up and unloading onto the Big Easy ski-out. This lift will also service Thompson Ridge down to the bottom of the terrain park giving you powder hounds longer runs with more vertical. The zone will also be getting a state of the art automatic snow making gun to better service the rails and jumps. The area will be getting lots of new rails which have been already ordered and will be arriving in October.
October will also see the arrival of another brand new Magic Carpet lift to replace the old handle tow in front of the day lodge. The carpet will be twice as long as the other carpet and give us more terrain for those of you who want to practice on small rails and butter boxes before heading over to the big park.
In December it looks like we have a special terrain park edition Prinoth BR 350 Snow Cat arriving. This groomer has a longer tiller for those hard-to-reach jumps in the park. The special blade controls will be able to form jumps and features that were impossible before. The groomer uses less fuel and will cover more ski-able acres per hour than our older groomers.
Don’t get me started on next summer’s upgrades: construction will start on a new additional mini-lodge which will house ski rentals, pro-shop, ticket centre along with first-aid and additional washrooms. The T-bar will also see major upgrades in the summer of 2010.
All the mountain upgrades would not be possible without the support of all the Cariboo communities. Grant funding has been provided by the Government of Canada’s Community Adjustment Fund administered through Western Diversification Canada and Northern Development Initiative Trust.
